Like Paris in 1900, the Games were held as part of the much larger World Exhibition. Athletics participation was poor and poorly promoted. Athletes would have to wait another four years before a proper cinder track would be used. This time they had to make do with a grass track at Francis Field on the Washington University campus.
Once again the ticket design was dictated by the larger Exhibition. However, the discerning athletics ticket collector will have done his research and discovered that all of the athletics events took place between 29th August and 3rd September. As all of the entrance tickets for the Exhibition have the day to which they applied stated upon them, it is a straightforward task to establish that days 242 To 247 applied to the athletics events.
The entrance tickets are, like those for Paris in 1900, easy to find and you can often see whole reams of them being made available on eBay. However, the month long pass is much more interesting and, in my experience, a rare find.
